A1.3 (TYRE PROFILE MACHINE) SKILLED ENGINEERING TEAM MEMBER, INVERNESS DEPOT

THE ROLE: As part of a team, responsible to the Level 5 Team Leader, Inverness Depot, for the re-profiling of wheel sets, general maintenance and repair of ScotRail vehicles to the prescribed standards, overhaul of components, preparing axles for NDT inspection and carrying out Level 5 activities. This post also involves working directly on T & RS vehicles up to ROGS 2006 (Skilled).

THE PERSON: Applicants should have the ability to work as part of a team, and be able to recognise the customers’ needs, whilst showing individual initiative.

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS: It is desirable that applicants are able to demonstrate a good knowledge of wheel set maintenance, profiles and measurements as well as identification of wheel tread defects. Academic qualifications in electrical/mechanical engineering to a HNC/NC standard or equivalent are preferred.  Applicants with relevant experience will also be considered. Ability to drive fork lift trucks desirable.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The successful applicant will be trained on the mobile wheel lathe operation and maintenance. This post involves working a 3 shift pattern which includes weekend working. Post covers 35 hours per week. Reference Salary £42,725 per annum (training salary £38,060). Selection process: Selected candidates will be invited to attend an assessment centre and interview. The final stage for successful candidates will be a medical examination. Appointees must submit at least two satisfactory references, Disclosure Scotland clearance and complete a six month probation period. Training initially involves a five day Induction training programme including first aid and fire safety.
