THE ROLE:  Lead on and support the development of DAS (Driver Advisory System), traction energy performance, safety and sustainability data and reporting initiatives to achieve our Committed Obligations, with a focus on Train and Operational Performance, Traction, Non-Traction Energy, Operational Safety, Waste, ISO 14001 and 50001 management system processes and stakeholder engagement.

Key Accountabilities:

Manage the development of the DAS (Driver Advisory System) to drive carbon reductions and cost savings

Engage with Operations, Performance, Train Planning and Engineering Teams to drive traction energy performance

Support the development of on train systems and tools to promote sustainability and operational safety management

Demonstrate a strong ability to analyse complex quantitative and qualitative sustainability data, draw robust conclusions and report these accurately and meaningfully

Manage the collection, validation and communication of sustainability data

Work in a rigorous manner to deliver accurate, high quality, engaging and client-ready outputs

Work to identify systems and processes to develop ScotRail’s Safety and Sustainability performance and reporting

Engage with team members in ScotRail and the Safety and Sustainability team to develop data and reporting solutions

Support delivery and management of the Sustainability Innovation Fund

Support the Safety and Sustainability Team in the delivery of its Committed Obligations

Develop skills, experience and qualifications through Learning and Development and knowledge building with other ScotRail departments as well as other Train Operating Companies and the Abellio Group.

Deputise for and carry out all reasonable tasks as instructed by the Head of Environment.

THE PERSON:  Degree qualified or further education background in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) discipline. Ability to project manage tasks from inception to completion.  A rigorous approach and attention to detail in both quantitative and qualitative research and analysis.  Excellent team-working, and ability to contribute towards a positive team dynamic. The ability to work under pressure to client determined deadlines. Ability to carry out continuing professional development activities in line with the above.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS: Excellent Excel Skills and other analytical software.  Excellent software development and information system skills.  Strong problem-solving skills and experience developing holistic solutions in a business context. Strong communication, interpersonal and client management skills.  Analytical and reporting skills.  Knowledge and understanding of emerging safety and sustainability issues.  Knowledge of the business environment in which ScotRail operates.

OTHER INFORMATION: The post holder will routinely interact with relevant stakeholders including, members of the Safety & Sustainability Team.  Stakeholders within ScotRail, with focus on Operations, Engineering, Performance.  External stakeholders in the communities in which ScotRail operates.  ScotRail Learning & Development Managers. Green Champions network.  Network Rail.  Transport Scotland. 

Post covers 35 hours per week. Reference Salary circa £35k depending on experience. Benefits include contributory final salary pension scheme, free and reduced rail travel for you and your family, where applicable.

Selection process: Selected candidates will be invited to attend an interview. The final stage for successful candidates will be a medical questionnaire. Appointees must submit at least two satisfactory references, Disclosure Scotland clearance and complete a six month probation period. Training initially involves a five day Induction training programme including first aid and fire safety.
