An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Merseyrail’s Finance Team as a Finance Apprentice.

The purpose of the job is to provide support to the Finance Business Partner team and the wider Finance team in order to gain exposure to all aspects of the Finance function, applying skills developed through the study of a professional accounting qualification (full study support to be provided)

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

• Processing of invoices through to payment
• Suppler statement reconciliations
• Ensure internal processes are adhered to for matching invoices to purchase orders
• Management of the Accounts Payable email inbox, including timely response to queries received or escalation to the appropriate Finance Business Partner
• Generate and send out Sales Ledger invoices
• Assist with Credit Control activities (cash collection/follow ups etc)
• Assist with maintaining the cashbook
• Assist with bank reconciliations
• Support with Periodic reconciliations including passenger receipts/invoice reconciliations
• Assist with managing the daily cashflow, ensuring it reconciles back to Merseyrail’s bank statements
• Maintenance and support with periodic reports e.g. Departmental P&L’s
• Assist with raising accruals, providing reconciliations with detail backing to support justification of provisions
• To support cost control and financial objective achievement through the provision of accurate and timely financial information
The successful candidate should possess the following:
• Strong IT skills
• Excellent communication skills
• Attention to detail
• Educated to GCSE standard or equivalent with a good standard of Maths and English (C-A*).

The successful candidate would also be expected to promote and raise the profile of the Finance function via internal engagement, whilst also ensuring the wider business adhere to internal processes and procedures.
