As part of The Transport UK Group, West Midlands Trains delivers around 1,300 train journeys a day, for more than 60 million passengers a year, across our two brands - West Midlands Railway and London Northwestern Railway.
We are committed to delivering a safe and reliable train service, by investing in our fleet of trains, stations and employees. As part of this investment, we are looking to recruit a Depot Assurance Manager, on a full-time, permanent basis. You will be based across our various WMT Depot locations.
You will be expected to take an active lead with regards to the Safety, Quality and Training requirements at Soho LMD, providing advice and guidance to the team, ensuring closure on safety recommendations, supporting the depot during internal and external safety audits and being a leading element in the continued development of the positive safety culture and environment.
What does the job involve?
- The purpose of this role is to ensure a consistent Quality Assurance approach is applied across the production outputs of the depot.
- You will oversee and coordinate a consistent Quality Assurance process to ensure that the outputs from the depot production teams meet the highest quality standards.
- The role holder will also create, deliver and co-ordinate the end-to-end training requirements for the depot teams.
- In some cases, this will require the creation of training materials, in others it will require developing new materials with internal teams, SMEs and third party vendors.
- The role holder will support and develop a culture of continuous learning and look to maximise the capabilities of colleagues.
- The role holder will carry out In Process and Final Work inspections to a high standard, ensuring that the end product is fit for purpose and that the process delivers repeatability.
- The role holder will co-ordinate the depot’s Competency Management System, ensuring that any deficiencies are addressed in a timely manner and are communicated effectively to the teams.
- The role holder will carry out ad hoc technical assessments as required to ensure that their competency is maintained.
- They will also proactively work to close QA/training gaps identified though proactive risk management, internal and external audits as well as through any incidents that have arisen.
- The role holder will play an active part in the complete closure on safety incidents and recommendations and subsequent review.
- The role holder will support the depot during both internal and external Safety & Quality related audits.
- The role is situated at Soho LMD but the role holder will be expected to travel across the WMT network and assist other depot production teams as deemed necessary.
What skills and experience do I need to do the job?
- Have served an apprenticeship or equivalent, supported by appropriate technical studies.
- Sound knowledge of railway operating and safety standards, rules and instructions
- Sound knowledge and understanding of a variety of traction and rolling stock and the maintenance standards applicable to them.
- Good knowledge and understanding of Health, Safety and Environmental legislation
- Good communication skills are required, including both verbal and written
- Excellent
- Ability to proactively identify opportunities for and to lead continuous improvement
- Self-motivated and able to react to a wide variety of situations.
- Proven track record of training to meet business industry specifications
- IOSH Managing Safely qualified.
