Abellio London Bus operates bus services across London on behalf of TFL, plus rail replacement and event services across the UK. We operate over nine per cent of the London bus network, running c800 vehicles and employing around 2,700 employees across six depots in Central, South and West London. We run a number of routes, carrying over 150 million passengers a year on TfL’s contracted bus network.

Duties include:

  • Have full people management responsibilities for the engineering team and all workshop activities during the managed shift.
  • To ensure that the Engineering, and where applicable Health and Safety and Environmental Policies are upheld by vigilant monitoring, and where shortcomings are identified relayed to the Fleet Manager.
  • Ensuring all vehicles are serviced, thoroughly maintained, and well presented in strict accordance with Company procedures and DVSA requirements whilst complying with agreed budgets.
  • Ensuring that all external contractors are managed efficiently and safely.
  • Report to the Fleet Manager any discrepancies found during the shift relating to ISO 9001 system or HS&E policy.
  • Undertake through supervision, vehicle and staff quality inspections to confirm the standard of engineering maintenance work meets the Company/Engineering Policy standards ensuring a minimum of 10% of the fleet is audited each month and Action plans implemented where necessary that will promptly address problems highlighted.    
  • Ensure all reported defects for vehicles/buildings/plant etc. is resolved as efficiently and effectively as possible, with no effect to the service network, and vehicle safety.
  • Monitor vehicle reliability and identify problems, ensuring successful remedial action is taken in order that service failure does not exceed the prescribed targets.
  • Report to the Fleet Manager any deficiencies relating to company Workshop/Depot plant and equipment to ensure that they are adequately maintained and meet Company and Legal targets.
  • Have a proactive attitude to non- compliance issues.

All candidates must have:

  • An excellent understanding of the road passenger transport sector, including all relevant legal and external regulations and requirements for the safe operation of passenger carrying vehicles.
  • Level 3 qualifications in PSV maintenance and repair or level 2 qualifications with 5 years recent PSV workshop experience in maintenance and repair.
  • Have current vehicle inspector IRTEC licence or must pass within probationary period.
  • Excellent working knowledge of all daily site procedures, engineering processes, health and safety Regulations, DVSA standards, and people management practices.
  • Have a passion to lead by example while motivating and developing teams to achieve high standards of performance.
  • Flexible approach to working hours.
  • Be able to lead and motivate a team to produce high quality work.
  • Be able to mentor and develop individuals.
  • Able to communicate effectively with all levels of the business and work in a collaborative manner.
