As part of the Transport UK Group, West Midlands Trains delivers around 1,300 train journeys a day, for more than 60 million passengers a year, across our two brands - West Midlands Railway and London Northwestern Railway.

We are committed to delivering a safe and reliable train service, by investing in our fleet of trains, stations and employees. As part of this investment, we are looking to recruit a Facilities Maintenance Technician on a full-time, permanent basis, working between Northampton and London.

What does the job involve?

  • Undertaking mixed maintenance activities at our train stations and depots between Northampton and London – this could be electrical, plumbing or general maintenance
  • Helping to maintain and fix a range of industrial plant equipment at our train care depots
  • Focusing on delivering a safe, reliable maintenance service
  • Communicating with colleagues and passengers in a professional and polite manner
  • Providing detailed reports on work undertaken, into the online database – including labour, materials and any remedial work required
  • Working by yourself and managing your own time and workload effectively
  • Ensuring all your work meets the company standards and is compliant with any industry regulations
  • Keeping your technical knowledge up to date via assessments, further training and any relevant qualifications

What skills and experience do I need to do the job?

  • Be a time served qualified electrician
  • Ideally experience of working in an industrial maintenance environment
  • An ability to interpret and understand operating and technical manuals
  • A working knowledge of COSHH, working at height & manual handling regulations
  • Being able to work under your own initiative and manage your time effectively
  • Be a good communicator, both verbally and in writing
  • Hold a full UK driving licence – with no more than 6 points
  • Comfortable using technology to record and compile your reports
