Are you a looking for the next step in your L&D career? Are you a natural organiser, good with detail and able to juggle multiple priorities? Do you pride yourself on delivering a high level of service to your colleagues and organisation?

Because we might have the job for you!

It’s no secret that the events of the pandemic had a big impact on the rail industry and our customers choices around rail travel. But our new National Rail Contract offers us the opportunity to turn West Midlands Trains into the best train operating company in the UK.

We can't achieve that vision and grow our business without continuing to develop our colleagues, to be some of the very best in the railway. And that's where our team comes in.

We've had some great successes with our apprenticeship schemes, the introduction of an online eLearning platform, achievement of Investors in Diversity Award and developing the future leaders of our business. But there's plenty more for us to do if we're going to help our business achieve its vision and we need your help in doing that.

You will professionally represent West Midlands Trains and be a key contact for the L&D team internally & externally - building effective business partnering relationships with managers and liaising with external suppliers to coordinate learning and development programmes and activities.

This role will suit an experienced administrator who is looking to further their career and thrive in a face paced and growing environment. You will be offered a full-time permanent contract and will be based in our dedicated Training & Development centre close to Snowhill Station, with some travel to external training venues required and occasional travel to other sites on the WMT network. The role also comes with a great corporate benefits package including great company pension.

As Learning & Development Advisor you will:

  • Support the Learning and Development team in the delivery of the Annual Training Plan, by administering and co-ordinating activities, including health & safety related training, management and leadership development programmes, departmental and sponsorship training requests.
  • Lead on delivery of our Princes Trust and Apprenticeship programmes and will administer and maintain our eLearning platform and performance development review system, and eFinance.
  • Liaise with managers, delegates and suppliers to organise training, including sending delegate joining instructions, monitoring attendance, completing data protection processes and evaluating the performance of programmes.
  • Producing communications such as newsletter articles and maintaining the L&D SharePoint pages to promote L&D initiatives.

Essential Skills Required:

  • Level 3 qualification in a Learning & Development/HR or other relevant subject, or equivalent level of qualifications/professional experience.
  • GCSEs Grade B/5 or above, including English & Maths, or equivalent level of qualifications/professional experience.
  • Experience of working in a learning and development/training or HR function, and experience of organising training courses.
  • Prior experience of completing complex administrative tasks.
  • Able to understand and follow complex processes and procedures accurately and maintain confidentiality.
  • Adaptable, flexible with a positive can-do approach, high level of perseverance and resilience to progress tasks in a changing and sometimes ambiguous context.
  • Confident and professional communication skills (verbal and written) to be able to approach, liaise and negotiate with external suppliers and clearly communicate with managers and employees regarding training requests and organisation.

Benefits:

West Midlands Trains are committed equal opportunities employers and encourage applicants from all backgrounds. As an employer we are dedicated to the recruitment and promotion of all, on the basis of ability and merit irrespective of disability, race, gender, health, social class, sexual preference, marital status, nationality, religion, employment status or age.  We believe diversity brings strength and is why we treat everyone fairly and assess you for the job based on your merit and skills.

Applications will be considered from internal colleagues with 6 months experience after completion of their probationary period and a full check of absence and disciplinary records.
