We have an excellent opportunity within our Fleet Engineering team in Romford for a Fleet Support Technician.

The Role

As a Fleet Support Technician with Greater Anglia, you are responsible for all aspects of Fleet Engineering Support, including telephone Technical support to the drivers to reduce delays, and good quality defect information to the depots on incidents occurring in service.

The Fleet Support Technician is required to provide assistance, by working collaboratively with staff in control, drivers, and other Train Maintainer staff in taking the right action, using the relevant I.T systems such as the Decision Support Tools, (DST), to get the train moving again safely, either in Passenger service, or be taken Out of Service, adhering to the Cut and Run / Fix or Fail process, but always in accordance with the requirements detailed in the Defective On Train Equipment, (DOTE).

You are expected to “task” the LOR Technicians to provide assistance during, and collect information after, an incident and coordinate with the Fleet Planning team on the timing and delivery of failed units to the relevant investigation and repair location, ensuring that the relevant departments are advised of the incidents and any rectification work that maybe required. You will ensure that the information entered in the performance systems, with regards to fleet incidents, is accurate, consistent, and compliant with a special requirement to monitor any incidents involving interface with the infrastructure.

The Fleet Support Technician will monitor service quality issues relating to fleet, ensuring that faults are reported accurately, and rectified in a timely manner. You will accurately identify repeat failures, trends, capture relevant information and ensure that depots are fully aware. In this role you are expected to demonstrate the ability to follow process, coordinate, lead, and provide any further advice or support needed to third parties in relation to a defect, and act professionally when liaising with customers and relevant stake holders during any significant fleet incidents.

It is essential that you can highlight any potential safety related fleet incidents including the management of Fleet Safety advices relating to RM/RT8250.

What we are looking for

We are looking for a colleague who understands railway operating rules, procedures, arrangements, incident management, and a basic understanding of rail industry performance management processes.

The ideal candidate will have an understanding of rail industry control management including service recovery arrangements, and a technical based background, ideally qualified to a HNC/HND level in an Engineering related discipline.

You should have experience in a rolling stock background, intermediate level proficiency in Word and Excel, and experience in coaching others, with the ability to communicate effectively under pressure to a variety of levels. It is important that you have safety awareness, understand safety management, and recognise potential consequences of incidents.
