West Midlands Trains (WMT) has an exciting opportunity for an IT Network Engineer to join the IT Team based at our Head Office in Birmingham on a fixed term contract for 2 years.  WMT is currently investing £1 billion to improve rail services from London to Liverpool and across the West Midlands. This includes new trains, improved stations and better journeys.

This role will implement a Wide Area Network & Local Area Network transformation in support of a major business programme.  Responsibilities will include Network Design, build, configure and implementation, to include replacement and new networking equipment that meet the current and future ‘station’ needs. Additionally working alongside the current Project and Business as usual IT teams to ensure the correct processes and staging is in place for each local area network to be deployed, tested and documented. Supporting on site staff by managing the connection to our Network, ensuring it is working, and troubleshoot any problems as they arise to ensure all IT equipment and infrastructure is running to its optimum performance and Service Level Agreement.

 

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

 

  • A technical network mind-set and the desire to work in a fast pace environment that proactively seeks out solutions in line with BAU IT policies, procedures and standards.   
  • A minimum of 5 years working in an IT Network environment. 
  • Understanding of routing and switching at both layer two and layer three of the OSI model. 
  • Hierarchical IP Subnetting
  • Thorough Unified Communications experience.
  • Current knowledge of VOIP, IP and MPLS Systems and services.
  • Experienced in the design and configuration of SD WAN, Firewalls, VPNs and IDS/IPS Solutions
  • Implementing and testing services into production.
  • Full UK Driving License.
