Putting the Train into Training’

Welcome aboard, this IRO high-speed service to a career in rail with Abellio Group.

You will be based at one of Operating Companies: West Midlands Trains.

Calling at:

*Railway Business, *Delivering Customer Services, *Delivering Passenger Freight Services, *Emergency and Incident Management, *Managing Safety, *Operational Planning and Timetabling, *Rail and People Change, *Performance Management and Rail Engineering


All stops are taught as part of the IRO rail modules, and on-the-job training, which run alongside an ILM level 5 Operational Management programme.

On-board today we’ll be offering a competitive salary of £18k and Free Travel Passes alongside some additional excellent benefits including a competitive pension scheme.

Our team of 14,000 people across the UK will be on hand to help you throughout your journey with us.

If you’re planning on joining this service, you’ll need at least a B in Maths and English GCSE
and 2 A levels A-C equivalent.

We’d also love it if you could bring:

  • A passion for the transport industry, the modernisation of UK Rail and desire to make a real difference for our customers
  • Enthusiasm to start building a long-term career in the Rail industry.

Throughout the journey we’ll be offering a range of opportunities and placements to learn about:

  • Planning (train planning), rostering, diagramming, amongst many more
  • Performance – causation, analysis, improvement
  • Managing the train service in a Control room
  • Train crew management
  • People management, including the legal bit, performance management, employee and industrial relations
  • AND a placement with Network Rail!

On arrival (end of the scheme) you’ll be ready to become one of our future Operations experts or a Functional Manager.
