Engineering Assurance Manager

We are currently seeking an experienced Quality, Health, Safety and Environment (QHSE) Manager to join the Engineering HQ Team. The purpose of the role is to provide independent QHSE risk management support to the Engineering department including the development, implementation and monitoring of ISO certificated management systems at all Engineering based locations. The role will require regular daily travel across multiple sites between London and Norwich on the Greater Anglia route.

Role and Accountability:

In this role you will develop, implement and monitor the integrated QHSE management system within all areas of responsibility in accordance with legislation, industry standards and company standards, as well as monitoring legislation changes, industry standards and technology developments to ensure that the department is compliant with applicable legislation and standards, whilst managing risk in an efficient and cost effective way.

The role will focus on the development and promulgation of policies, procedures and safety documentation e.g. risk assessments, COSHH assessments, safe systems of work, quality procedures, work instructions, operational procedures, improvement strategies and plans etc. Ensure risk control systems are suitable and sufficient with adequate measures in place to eliminate or reduce the risk of accidents and incidents.

You will produce risk-based engineering assurance plans and ensure the assurance activities are carried out, ensuring internal, external and supplier audits are carried out in accordance with the audit plan, findings and recommendations are recorded and monitored until suitable corrective and preventative actions are put in place.

You will ensure that accidents, incidents and near misses are suitably investigated, identify root causes and develop corrective and preventative action plans. The post holder will monitor the suitability of training and competency management arrangements, ensuring that training needs analysis is undertaken and personal development plans are designed to support the needs of the organisation

Experience, knowledge and Qualifications Required:

Successful candidates will have at least 5 year’s QHSE management experience in a production, engineering or manufacturing environment, preferably in the transport sector i.e. rail, road, aviation or shipping. You will hold an EBOSH Diploma, NVQ Level 5 Diploma or NCRQ Level 6 in Occupational Safety and Health Practice (or equivalent), with a minimum of graduate level membership of IOSH and working towards Chartered Membership.

You will hold an environmental management qualification (e.g. NEBOSH, BSC or CIEH), as well as an IOSH or IRCA approved lead auditor qualification with demonstrable experience, or an Incident investigation qualification with demonstrable experience. You will be able to demonstrate an in depth knowledge, understanding and practical application of legislation, industry standards and ISO management systems e.g. 45001, 9001, 14001 and 5000. You will have experience of effective management of others including recruitment, development, performance and discipline, with the ability to make effective use of Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

You will preferably hold ECDL or ITQ qualifications, with strong communication and presentations skills, and experience in writing detailed procedures such as safe systems of work and operational instructions. You will be well organised with excellent attention to detail and the ability to prioritise workloads and to act upon own initiative and make critical decisions.
