An exciting new opportunity has arisen for an ATF Lane Chargehand in our Engineering department at our Twickenham Depot. The successful candidate will have day to day responsibility for running the MOT workshop and test facilities in accordance with the Company’s policies and standards in order to deliver a consistently reliable, safe, high quality work output and results in line with specified targets, contractual obligations and commercial objectives.

 

The Role:

Keeping test station equipment calibrated and up to date.

Building and maintain a good working relationship with the DVSA vehicle Examiners.

Assist the Fleet Manager with monitoring and implementation of all work programmes i.e., Servicing, Refurbishment, Repainting, Vehicle cleaning plus any other modification programmes with particular reference to any of these interfacing with test preparation.

To refer to the driver and vehicle defect systems both generally and specifically in relationship to vehicles entering MOT preparation. Ensure all vehicles return to service in a legal and safe condition.

Ensure that all vehicles maintained in the workshop meet company Operators licence, Engineering policy and statutory law in respect of safety, reliability and condition through effective work planning control, preventative maintenance and maximum utilisation of staff and facilities.

Making sure they have the correct paperwork before presenting their vehicles.

Maintain the Company pass rate and check the correct paperwork of all Abellio vehicles before presenting them for test.

 

The Candidate:

Applicants will be required to have a minimum qualification Level 3 NVQ plus full FTA and VOSA inspection Certificate.
To assist the management in ensuring that the Company’s engineering targets for Servicing, and in particular, MOT pass rate, etc. are achieved.
Excellent working knowledge of the current fleet enabling the individual to advise staff when technical issues arise. Ability to accurately diagnose and repair basic/complex vehicle faults on a number of levels.
Excellent understanding of the road passenger transport sector, including all relevant legal and external regulations and requirements for the operation of passenger carrying vehicles.

To undertake any other duties commensurate with the Grade, such as obtaining technical print outs prior to testing, ensuring the test station facility, comply with the terms and conditions of a DP or ATF. The need to liaise with other garages and managers regarding test appointments and the ongoing test program.

 

Candidates without the current entry level qualifications may be considered if considerable experience and a proven aptitude can be demonstrated for the role during the recruitment process.
