Community Development/Integration and Inclusion Apprentices (2 roles)

Level 3 – 18 month fixed term contract

Central Birmingham

£14,000 + benefits + Apprenticeship support

Have you considered a career within Customer Services and are you currently looking for the right Apprenticeship opportunity?  West Midlands Trains are looking to partner with Solihull College to find a two talented individuals to join our team as an Apprentice.

This role would give you the opportunity to work in a business 4 days a week whilst studying for your Level 3 Customer Specialist qualification one day a week so that after 18 months you would have a qualification and experience working within an organisation going through a significant period of change and improvement.

The roles are within our Corporate Affairs team. The successful candidates will be working closely together on project and consultation support for our West Midlands Railway and London Northwestern Railway networks.

The two roles are -

Community Development apprentice focusing on:

  • Community rail projects across our network
  • Meetings and events
  •  Neighbourhood and community planning
  • Consultation and surveys
  • Administration and project support

Integration and Inclusion apprentice focusing on:

  • Access and inclusion issues across our rail network
  • Helping our Stakeholder Equality Group
  • Consultation events and surveys
  • Station travel planning and access projects
  • Equality and diversity projects

The two apprentices will report to the Integrated Transport and Accessibility Manager, based at our Head Office in central Birmingham. However, there will be chance to get involved in a wide range of exciting and new projects with our wider team, covering promotional activities, community events, project planning and preparation of resources.

In return we are looking for an individual with the following skills:

  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Windows and the Microsoft Office suite of applications.
  • Experience in use of electronic communication
  • Knowledge and experience of good customer service principles and practices
  •  Highly self-motivated with good work ethic, enthusiastic with a can-do attitude
  •  5 GCSE’s Grade 4 and above (or equivalent) including in Maths and English
  • Excellent time management and prioritisation skills
  • Team player with excellent problem solving skills
  •  Comfortable communicating with Customers (internal and external) and a good telephone manner
  •  Experience with community organisations and groups (e.g. volunteering)
  • A keen interest in community engagement and public engagement
