West Midlands Trains is keen to develop a Graduate Engineer who can provide a positive contribution to our business with their technical competence and interpersonal skills. Our large fleet of rail vehicles must be expertly maintained and fit for use – whether working on vehicle design, specification, procurement, operational and engineering safety or with risk based maintenance regimes, our Engineers are involved at every stage of the process. Our graduate programme is about transferring the academic knowledge you will have gained at university into real world application. With training, we'll teach you how the rail industry works and allow you to apply the learning and the engineering knowledge in our Depots.

We are seeking a successful candidate will follow the Rail Delivery Group's Accredited Railway Engineering Graduate Scheme – a mentored quality scheme recognised by IMechE and IET - leading to Chartered Engineer status.  The initial one year training programme comprises a number of internal and external placements and projects relevant to rail traction and rolling stock engineering and is intended to lead into a suitable leadership role within West Midlands Trains Engineering team.

Duties on the scheme will include

  • Register on the IMechE eMPDS scheme and produce reports and provide evidence to keep the scheme up to date.
  • Regularly carry out reviews and competence assessments with Professional Engineering Mentor and ATOC REG Scheme Administrator in order to increase competences required.
  • Undertake internal and external placements in accordance with the Scheme, gaining knowledge and acquiring competences.
  • Undertake projects during placements which bring benefits to West Midlands Trains as well as contributing to increased competence.
  • Contribute ideas and suggest improvements to line management during placements, using and developing technical and interpersonal skills. 

Key Requirements

  • Applicants should be Graduate Engineers with a MEng or BEng degree accredited by the IMechE or IET
