West Midlands Trains has an exciting opportunity for a Head of Occupational Safety to join the existing Safety team in our Birmingham Head Office. 

This role will lead on the risk and assurance function of the business, so that there is a clear understanding of the operation of the safety management system and the associated control of risk. The successful candidate will also be responsible for ensuring that risk control strategies are deployed with the business as required by the safety management system. Key accountabilities also include ensuring the safety performance reporting is being undertaken to meet statutory, industry and group reporting requirements and to provide management information and reports to the business in order to provide management assurance on the extent to which the business is managing and reducing its health and safety risks. 

The ideal candidate will have

CMIOSH status (with NEBOSH Occupational Health and Safety Diploma or equivalent).
Comprehensive Understanding of occupational health and safety legislation and risk assessment
Knowledge of occupational safety and health & wellbeing management systems particularly HSG65
Appreciation of government and key stakeholder health and safety agendas
Strategic thinker proven experience in a strategic role
Disciplined approach to policy and process development
Skilful communicator and influencer
