Cambridge Carriage Siding Shunter

Applicants should live within one-hour normal travelling time of our Cavendish Road Depot in Cambridge - CB1 3AE.

Main Duties:

You will be responsible for the safe and efficient working of all movements and shunting within Cambridge Carriage Sidings and other locations under the instructions of the Carriage Siding Supervisor. You shall also be required to operate the machinery which empties the controlled emission tanks from toilets on various types of trains and to control the train movements for washing of trains.

As part of this position you will be required to liaise with Train Crew, Signallers and other staff on matters relating to working within Cambridge Carriage Siding, using safe radio protocols where appropriate, and carry out various other duties to maintaining standard documentation, maintaining security, and maintaining good standard of cleanliness within the Carriage Sidings.

What we are looking for:

You will have a flexible approach to work as the role is covers all shifts, has a heavy commitment to night shifts and has weekend and bank holiday working. Have a good standard of literacy, clear communication skills and be willing to undertake initial training and update training as required. You should be happy to be subject to assessment in the role.

There is a requirement to wear the protective clothing which is issued.

Please Note:

Because of the operational and safety responsibilities of the role and because it does offer an opportunity to gain railway operating experience which would aid an individual who might consider train driving in the future, the selection for this role will include the aptitude tests for train driving.
