An exciting opportunity has arisen for the role of Contracts Manager within the commercial department at our Walworth Deport. They will have sound knowledge of how buses operate in both the regulated and deregulated market and to bring innovative ideas to support the development of the business. They should be highly numerate and be comfortable working to tight time constraints.

The Role:

  • To review all invitations to tender, considering the strategic and operational implications, and developing accurately costed, high quality responses in line with the agreed tender pricing model.
  • To prepare, compile and submit tenders to TfL and other bodies in line with the relevant approvals framework in a timely manner.
  • To liaise with TfL on all matters related to tender submissions, contract administration and other relevant areas.
  • To monitor tender results in relevant markets and report on trends to inform pricing strategy.
  • To manage the contract administration function, ensuring accurate records of all contract changes and timely response to queries and change to contract issues.
  • To manage the service change process, ensuring timely submission of costs and accuracy of data to ensure a robust process.
  • To act as a link with the Scheduling team, Finance team, Engineering team, Operations team and Leadership Team to ensure a smooth flow of information and commercial success for the company in line with corporate objectives.
  • To establish and maintain ongoing relationships with public and other bodies letting bus operating contracts and external suppliers, ensuring all communication is in line with the Company communications plans and strategies.
  • To contribute to delivery of business plan actions across all areas of the business as appropriate.
  • Contributing across the company to assist in ensuring delivery of objectives including reduction in road traffic accidents (RTAs); reduction in passenger injuries (PIs); improvement in employee engagement and improvement in stakeholder relationships.
  • To support the Abellio UK Bus team as required in developing the regional development plans.
  • Have a duty of care for the health and safety of yourself and your colleagues at all times, including a duty to report unsafe acts or omissions to safety. You should always follow all safety instructions in respect of how you undertake your role within the business.
  • Complete paperwork and reports as required.

The Candidate:

  • Have the aptitude to learn quickly in what can seem a complex environment and present arguments where improvements can be introduced.
  • Experience in at least two different roles in their career to date spanning at least 3 years of employment. The post-holder is likely to have been educated to degree level.
  • Be IT literate and have a passion for ‘getting the detail right’ while wishing to improve the journeys for our customers make from A to B.
  • Ability to work accurately and efficiently
  • Prior knowledge of commercial and business development issues involving both cost planning and revenue forecasting.
  • Knowledge of the passenger road transport market in both the regulated bus market in the TfL area and also the de-regulated market outside London would be advantageous but is not essential.
  • Highly numerate, analytical and detail conscious.
  • Ability to work within tight time constraints and submit accurate work within set deadlines.
  • Excellent influencing skills, combined with the ability to network at a range of levels.
  • Performance focused with the ability to enthuse a team to achieve results.
  • Ability to report clearly both verbally and in writing.
  • Previous experience of working for a major bus operator within a commercial team essential.
