We have an exciting opportunity for 3 Roadside controllers in our Performance Department, based at Battersea, Twickenham and Walworth. The successful applicants will be expected to control bus services and supervise driving staff to ensure that the quality of the service operated exceeds the target performance levels and that driving staff perform their duties to the standard required by the company. The successful candidate will be offered a permanent role working shifts, these are rostered on a five day, 40 hour week basis which will include rostered Weekends and bank holidays.

Main Responsibilities

  • To actively promote Abellio Safety Principles at all times.
  • To ensure effective control of service quality on specific routes ensuring that company targets are achieved and if possible exceeded.
  • Responsible for providing clear instruction at all times to platform staff, ensuring that they fully understand what is required and what has been asked.  
  • To maintain good customer relations ensuring all enquiries and complaints are dealt with promptly.
  • To actively promote Abellio Way at all times and strive to achieve our vision.
  • To provide an efficient, regular and high quality bus service by supervising services and staff at terminals, garages and intermediate points along the routes.
  • Liaise with iBus Controllers, TfL, CentreComm, TSG and London Bus Officials with regards to service disruptions, in order to meet the required performance standards.
  • To build strong working relationships with colleagues, ensuring a consistent team approach to achieving the required performance.
  • To ensure that vehicle cleanliness and vehicle and driver presentation standards meet the requirements of the London Buses.
  • Manage vehicle and pedestrian movements within the depot, including supervising the run in and run out to ensure timely departures from the depot.
  • Ensure that drivers carry out comprehensive first use of checks and report on quality and cleanliness of vehicles and drivers.
  • To monitor and control services for punctuality or headway, including reporting on driving standards and to take appropriate action to address areas of concern.
  • To take charge of emergency situations and to liaise with The Police or other external bodies relevant to the operation of services.
