A3.3 Technician, Inverness

THE ROLE: To deliver continuous improvement on the reliability, performance and safety of the class 158 fleets maintained at Inverness Depot.  This post will report to the Technical Manager, supporting the Production team in providing technical expertise to rectify any technical issues.  Creating and carrying out fleet modification and special procedures to improve fleet performance and safety.   Provide an in-depth understanding of the operation and analysis of on train data reporting systems, to aid fault finding.  Use remote on train reporting and analysis tools to provide comprehensive data to proactively detect and prevent potential in service failures. Attending failed units and tech riding sets as per depot requirements.  Carry out report writing to a high level to support incident investigation.  Deputise as required for the Technical Manager.

THE PERSON: Mechanical / Electrical Engineer with a wide experience of railway rolling stock engineering, with proven experience and ability.  It is essential to be a time served engineer qualified to a minimum of SVQ level 3. (Copies of full qualifications must be available at assessment stage).

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS: A thorough knowledge of the technical and safety arrangements for Diesel Traction and Rolling Stock maintenance is essential.   In depth knowledge of rolling stock systems/procedures including schematics, fault finding techniques and data analysis.   An understanding of database packages such as Fleet Bugle, Trust and Squire as well as a sound knowledge of Microsoft Office packages and INFOR is essential.  Must have excellent communication skills both written and oral.  Ability to learn, adapt and implement new techniques to delivery sustained improvements.  Ability to complete all records of actions and operations accurately and to procedures.  Commitment and flexibility to meet the business needs in a necessity to this position.

OTHER INFORMATION: This safety critical post involves working a 3-shift pattern, which includes weekend working. Assessment will be a part of the recruitment process.

Reference Salary £45,331 per annum. Training salary until competent shall be £42,734.

Note: Part of this salary is non-pensionable.

Training: Training initially involves a 5 day Induction training programme in Glasgow including first aid and fire safety training. Selection process: Candidates short-listed will be invited to attend an assessment centre in Glasgow. Appointees must provide at least 2 satisfactory references and complete a six month probation period.
