DMU (Diesel Multiple Unit) Assurance Manager

As part of The Transport UK Group, West Midlands Trains delivers around 1,300 train journeys a day, for more than 60 million passengers a year, across our two brands - West Midlands Railway and London Northwestern Railway.

As part of this investment, we are looking to recruit a DMU (Diesel Multiple Unit) Assurance Manager, on a full-time, permanent basis. You will be based across our various WMT Depot locations.

You will be expected to provide a professional support, advice, and audit role at Fleet production locations, ensuring closure on safety recommendations, taking the lead with regards to the depot internal, external safety and quality audits, as well as being a leading element in the continued development of the positive safety and environmental culture. 

 

What does the job involve?

  • The role holder will oversee and coordinate a consistent Quality Assurance process to ensure that the outputs from the depot production teams meet the highest quality standards.
  • Facilitate the implementation and upkeep of Quality systems at all depots to maintain certification to ISO9001.
  • The holder will co-ordinate the end-to-end training requirements for the depot teams.
  • The holder will support and develop a culture of continuous learning and look to maximise the capabilities of colleagues.
  • The holder will carry out In Process and Final Work inspections to a high standard, ensuring that the product is fit for purpose and that the process delivers repeatability.
  • The holder will co-ordinate the depot’s Competency Management System, ensuring that any deficiencies are addressed in a timely manner and are communicated effectively to the teams.
  • They will also proactively work to close QA/training gaps identified though proactive risk management, internal and external audits as well as through any incidents that have arisen.
  • Ensure depot compliance with all safety responsibilities as detailed in the Safety Responsibility Statement.
  • Carry out internal audits of safety management systems and their relevant processes within the Fleet Production department, in conjunction with the WMT Safety team.
  • Review of task analyses and risk assessments for all work carried out by depot colleagues.
  • The holder will play an active part in the complete closure on safety incidents and recommendations and subsequent review.
  • The holder will support the depots during both internal and external Safety & Quality related audits.
  • The holder will be expected to travel across the WMT network and assist other depot production teams as deemed necessary. 

 

What skills and experience do I need to do the job?

  • Certified in NEBOSH or working towards NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent.
  • Good experience of quality systems and ISO9001.
  • Good analytical skills to determine root cause.
  • Good interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to proactively identify opportunities for and to lead continuous improvement.
  • Self-motivated and able to react to a wide variety of situations.
  • Qualified to Lead Auditor standard (Desirable)
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills (Desirable)
