As part of the Transport UK Group, West Midlands Trains delivers around 1,300 train journeys a day, for more than 60 million passengers a year, across our two brands - West Midlands Railway and London Northwestern Railway.
We are committed to delivering a safe and reliable train service, by investing in our fleet of trains, stations and employees. As part of this investment, we are looking to recruit a Head of Performance, on a full-time, permanent basis.
What does the role involve?
- Senior leadership of the performance team, including defining the strategy and identifying business and performance targets, for all departments
- Supporting the annual business plan metric negotiations with the Department for Transport - ensuring delivery against them each period
- Developing and delivering high quality performance information, in support of business objectives
- Ensuring all appropriate teams within the business identify and deliver plans to improve the performance of the train service
- Actively identify, lead and deliver continuous improvements to train safety performance, service reliability and customer satisfaction
- Liaising with internal and external stakeholders to develop continuous improvement for the day-to-day delivery of a high performing train service
- Exploring internal and external opportunities for innovation, that will drive better service delivery
What skills and experience do I need to do the job?
- Be an experienced and credible leader, with people and leadership skills gained in at a senior level
- A track record in leading, developing and motivating diverse teams to deliver results – challenging poor performance, where required
- The ability to understand and absorb substantial volumes of information quickly and accurately - driving appropriate actions to deliver realistic solutions
- Mentoring and coaching individuals/teams to lead continuous improvement changes
- Demonstrable experience of deploying strategic priorities and change programmes, whilst maintaining performance delivery
- In-depth knowledge of railway operations and Network Rail & Industry standards - including statutory legislation
- Being comfortable in a complex and demanding environment, demonstrating a high level of personal resilience
